Erindale is an historical neighbourhood located within the central part of the city of Mississauga, west of Toronto. It runs along Dundas Street West, the centre of the old village is just to the east of the Credit River valley. A large campus of the University of Toronto, known as University of Toronto Mississauga, is located on the west bank of the river.
When Anna Jameson visited Erindale in 1837 she referred to it as "a very pretty village". The community was also known as Credit, Springfield and Springfield-on-the-Credit. Erindale was the name of the house built by the Reverend James Magrath, the first rector of St. Peter's Anglican Church, and that name was eventually given to the village in the early 1900s.
Erindale was born as a mill-village, but the heady days of industry have passed Erindale by, and the village has remained a quiet, residential area that offers glimpses of more industrious and industrial past. Average home prices in Erindale are around $406K, the community has a mixture of condos and houses, is close to the GO stations and highways 403 and QEW - making commute to work easy. Many amenities are situated all around, as the neighborhood is in the heart of the city. Wonderful place to live! |
